DEFIANCE, Ohio. -- The Adrian College Men's Soccer team opened its season with a win on the road on Friday night, taking down the Defiance College Yellowjackets by a 5-1 score.
Last season, the Bulldogs earned their one and only win in game-number eight on the season, though in 2024, Adrian got off to the start they were hoping for in securing the opening win.
Adrian's
Owen Emert opened the scoring in the second minute of the opening half on a tally assisted by
Tyler Berezak. It was not long before Defiance answered to tie it at one, but only four minutes later, Adrian's
Aidan Leline found the back of the net to make it 2-1 after the sixth minute.
Alex Greene continued the offense for Adrian, scoring in the thirteenth minute, before Berezak added another for the Bulldogs, bringing the score to 4-1 after twenty-two minutes of play. In the second half, the Bulldogs added one more in the sixty-ninth minute thanks to
Kyle Peterson.
A commanding offensive effort, which saw nine shots on goal, and three saves from goalkeeper,
Jackson Vacca, was all the Bulldogs needed to fend off the Yellowjackets, who Adrian had tied at home last season.
Berezak finished the night with a goal and two assists for Adrian, while Greene led with three shots. Freshman midfielder,
Brett Wojkowski, was the only Adrian player to see all ninety minutes of the match. Freshman keeper,
Eli Sizemore, stood in goal for just over fifteen minutes in aid of the victory.
The Adrian College Men's Soccer team will return to the pitch on September 4 for their home opener at Docking Stadium. Kick off will be at 4:00 PM against Earlham College.
