ADRIAN, MICH. – The Adrian College men's hockey team defeated Trine University 4-3 to move to 12-3-0 on the year.
Adrian burst out of the gates with intensity as senior
Riley Murphy lit the lamp early, putting the Bulldogs on the scoreboard with a goal, assisted by sophomore
Ian Amsbaugh and junior
Bradley Somers. However, Trine quickly responded, evening the score and seizing momentum to take a 2-1 lead before the first period concluded.
The second period turned into a defensive battle, with neither team able to capitalize on their opportunities. Adrian entered the third period trailing by one but refused to back down. Sophomore
Ben Loreto reignited the Bulldogs' offense, netting the equalizer off a sharp feed from freshman
Ryder Nienhuis, tying the game at 2-2.
Trine determined to hold their ground, answered back midway through the final frame, reclaiming the lead. But Adrian showed resilience, launching a late-game surge. With under ten minutes remaining, senior
Ryan Pitoscia delivered a clutch goal to even the score, assisted by freshman
Patrick Saini and junior
Anthony Mollica. The Bulldogs weren't finished yet. Freshman
David Clarke rose to the occasion, scoring the game-winning goal with key assists from junior
Bradley Somers and
Ian Amsbaugh.
Adrian's defense held strong in the closing moments, fending off Trine's final push to secure a thrilling 4-3 victory.
Adrian is back in action on Friday, January 17th and they will head to Lake Forest, Illinois to take on Lake Forest College. Puck drop is set for 8:00 PM EST.
