DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Adrian College NCAA women's hockey team exploded for a dominant 16-2 victory over the University of Dubuque on Saturday afternoon, including an impressive 8-goal outburst in the third period.
The scoring got started early, with Sydnie Crockett putting the Bulldogs on the board. Dubuque responded with a goal of their own, but Riley Johnson and Courtney Ben each scored twice, followed by a goal from Annika Hanson. Adrian led 6-1 after the first period.
Dubuque found the back of the net again in the second period, but Hunter Reardon and Callie Wollschlager answered for the Bulldogs, pushing the lead to 8-2.
In the third period, Wollschlager struck again, and Crockett netted her second goal of the game. Johnson and Ben both completed their hat tricks, extending the lead to 12-2. Johnson wasn't done yet, scoring her fourth goal of the contest before Hanson added her second. Kathryn Truban then got in on the action with another goal, and Johnson capped off the scoring with her fifth of the game, securing the 16-2 win.
Maya Roy recorded four assists, while Kiera Stack started in goal for Adrian, finishing with 12 saves.
The Bulldogs will continue their road trip next weekend when they face St. Norbert College. Friday's game will begin at 8:00 PM ET to open the series.
