ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College ACHA Division 1 hockey team hosted Saginaw Valley State University for a two-game series on Wednesday and Thursday at the Arrington Ice Arena. The Bulldogs exploded offensively, combining for 25 goals across the two contests. Adrian cruised to a 13-0 victory on Wednesday night before following up with a 12-1 win on Thursday.
Adrian came out firing in game one, scoring five goals in the opening period from Justin Jamer, Cash Regan, Blake Wideman, Dylan Gajewski, and Sebastian Smith. In the second, Wideman added two more goals to complete the hat trick, while Gajewski tallied his second of the night. The Bulldogs continued their dominance in the third period with goals from Ethan McLaughlin, Eli Reimer, and Carter McLeod to make it 11-0. Gajewski completed his hat trick late in the period before Alex Schaumburger capped off the night with a buzzer-beater goal to secure the 13-0 win.
Reimer added four assists to go along with his goal, while Jamer contributed three assists. Peyton Trzaska earned the shutout victory in net, stopping all 17 shots he faced. The Bulldogs outshot Saginaw Valley 74-17 in the contest.
On Thursday, Adrian once again jumped out to an early lead with five first-period goals from Matteo Turrin, Smith, Schaumburger, Luke Marley, and Jamer. Saginaw Valley got on the board with a power-play goal, but Adrian responded quickly as Blake Hiltermann, Marc-Antoine Belzile, and Nathaniel Mott each scored to make it 8-1 after two periods. In the final frame, Turrin, Caleb Minns, McLaughlin, and Wideman each added a goal to close out a 12-1 victory.
Dylan Eliason made the start in goal for the Bulldogs in game two, recording 10 saves in the win. Seven Bulldogs recorded multiple assists on the night, and Adrian held a commanding 69-11 advantage in shots.
Justin Jamer totaled his 100th career point in Wednesday night's contest while Sebastian Smith played in his 150th career game on Thursday night. Smith's first goal on Thursday night became the 100th goal of his ACHA career making him the third player in program history with the milestone. He joins his brother Connor Smith '23 (108 goals), and Brad Kobryn '18 (167 goals) as 100-goal scorers.
With the sweep, Adrian improves to 11-2-1 on the season. The Bulldogs return to the Arrington Ice Arena on November 6-7 for a two-game series against Niagara University. Game one is set for 7:30 PM on Thursday.
