ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College ACHA Men's Division 1 hockey team earned a weekend sweep over the University of Pittsburgh in a two-game home series, securing a 4-3 overtime win on Friday night and a 3-0 shutout on Saturday afternoon.
Friday's opener saw Pittsburgh strike first with an early goal, but Griffin Zaske responded for the Bulldogs to even the score at 1-1 by the end of the first period. After a scoreless second, Cash Regan gave Adrian a 2-1 lead before the Panthers tied it up again at 2-2. Sebastian Smith capitalized on a power play to put the Bulldogs ahead 3-2, but a penalty shortly after allowed Pitt to level the score once more, forcing overtime. In the extra frame, Adrian drew a penalty and made it count as Dylan Gajewski scored the game-winner to seal the victory.
Zaske led the Bulldogs with two assists on the night, while goaltender Peyton Trzaska made 24 saves in the win.
On Saturday, Adrian came out strong and took a 2-0 lead early in the first period behind goals from Regan and Nathaniel Mott. The second period was again scoreless, but the Bulldogs added insurance in the third when Eli Reimer found the back of the net to make it 3-0. Assists were credited to Smith, Gajewski, and Ethan McLaughlin. Goaltender Dylan Eliason stopped all 22 shots he faced to record the shutout.
Adrian will return to action October 10–11 for Rivalry Weekend against Liberty University. Friday's matchup is set for 7:05 p.m., with Saturday's game scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
