UTICA, N.Y. – The No. 10 Adrian College men's hockey team capped off a strong weekend with a 5–3 win over No. 2 Utica University on Saturday afternoon, completing a road sweep of the Pioneers.
Nathaniel Bannister opened the scoring for the Bulldogs in the first period, capitalizing on a turnover near the blue line for an unassisted goal. Utica answered later in the period to tie the game at 1–1 after one.
Adrian wasted no time regaining control in the second period, as David Clarke scored just 20 seconds in, followed quickly by a tally from Patrick Saini to make it 3–1. Utica battled back with two goals before the end of the frame to even things at 3–3 heading into the third.
Early in the final period, Lucas Deeb netted a power-play goal to put the Bulldogs back on top. With just over 11 minutes remaining, Ryan Vellucci added an insurance marker to seal the 5–3 victory.
Adrian outshot Utica 29–27 in the contest. Jacob Suede notched two assists, while goaltender Ryan Piros earned the win with 24 saves, including 12 in the third period.
The Bulldogs open NCHA conference play next weekend with a two-game road series at Marian University. Game one is set for Friday, November 7, at 8:00 p.m. ET.
