FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team opened NCHA conference play on the road Friday night, defeating Marian University 5-1. The No. 3 Bulldogs improved to 3-0 on the season with the win.
Adrian jumped out to an early lead in the first period when Ryan Vellucci found the back of the net to make it 1-0. Just over two minutes later, Ryder Nienhuis doubled the advantage, giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 cushion heading into the first intermission.
After a scoreless second period, Jacob Suede extended Adrian's lead to 3-0 with a power-play goal early in the third. Marian answered later in the frame, but Suede responded with his second power-play goal of the night to make it 4-1. Lucas Deeb sealed the victory with an empty-net goal late in the period.
Suede finished with a four-point night, adding two assists to his pair of goals. David Clarke and Ian Amsbaugh each tallied three assists, while Nathaniel Bannister also recorded one helper. Goaltender Ryan Piros earned the win with 24 saves.
The Bulldogs will conclude their weekend series with Marian tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 PM ET.
