GENEVA, Ill. – The No. 2 Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team wrapped up its two-game road series at No. 3 Aurora University on Saturday. In a defensive, penalty-filled battle, neither team found the back of the net in regulation, but Aurora eventually pulled out a 1-0 overtime victory.
The Bulldogs controlled much of the opening period, outshooting the Spartans 8-1. Adrian continued to press in the second, holding a 12-6 shot advantage and earning five power-play opportunities, including roughly two and a half minutes of 5-on-3 time. Despite the pressure, Aurora's defense stayed firm and kept Adrian off the scoreboard.
Offense was limited on both sides in the third, with shots tied at 6-6 as the game remained deadlocked after 60 minutes.
Midway through overtime, Adrian was called for a hooking penalty, sending the Bulldogs to the penalty kill. Aurora capitalized just 18 seconds into the power play and scored the game-winner.
Adrian finished 0-for-9 on the power play, while Aurora went 1-for-7. The Bulldogs outshot the Spartans 28-15, and Ryan Piros made 14 saves in goal.
Despite the overtime loss, Adrian picks up one point in the NCHA standings while Aurora claims two. The Bulldogs return home next weekend to open play at Arrington Ice Arena, hosting Lawrence University on November 21–22. Friday's matchup is set for 7 p.m.
