ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College women's hockey team continued its strong start to conference play with a commanding 7–1 win over Aurora on Saturday afternoon at Arrington Ice Arena. The Bulldogs set the tone early with a four-goal first period and never looked back, improving to 4–0 in league play.
Adrian struck first at 7:45 of the opening frame when Paige Pomerleau buried an even-strength goal off quick puck movement from Sophia LaColla and Emma Simon. Less than two minutes later, Carly Carpenter netted her first of the night, converting a setup from Parker Beyer and LaColla to double the Bulldogs' lead.
Carpenter stayed hot, scoring again at 10:29 to make it 3–0, finishing off a crisp passing play from Hannah Markovich and Ava Mattaliano. Adrian closed out the explosive period on the power play, where Riley Johnson buried her first of the season with helpers from Simon and Mattaliano to take full control heading into the break.
Aurora cut into the lead with a goal midway through the second, but that would be all they managed against a locked-in Adrian defensive unit and a steady performance in net from Kiera Stack, who finished with 16 saves on 17 shots.
The Bulldogs reasserted command in the third. Hunter Reardon buried a power-play goal at 4:27, restoring a four-goal cushion with assists from Markovich and Maddy Loe. Just minutes later, Mattaliano added a goal of her own off a feed from Allie Hubenschmidt, and Courtney Ben capped the scoring at 14:09 with an unassisted tally to make it 7–1.
Adrian dominated the shot column 42–17 and went 2-for-5 on the power play, while the penalty kill finished perfect.
With the win, the Bulldogs keep momentum rolling in conference play and continue to build as they head to Lawrence University Friday and Saturday. Puck drop set for 3:00 PM EST.
