ANGOLA, Ind. – The No. 12 Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team traveled to No. 7 Trine University on Friday night to open their final regular-season series. After a scoreless first period, Trine's offense came to life, and the Thunder secured a 3-1 victory.
Trine broke the deadlock with 15 minutes remaining in the second period, then extended their lead to 2-0 just 3:30 later. Riley Murphy put Adrian on the board with a goal in the final 13 seconds of the period. The third period was a defensive battle, and with time running out, Adrian was forced to pull its goalie. This allowed Trine to score an empty-net goal and seal the 3-1 win.
Matt Couto recorded an assist on Adrian's lone goal. The Bulldogs outshot Trine 30-17, with Dershahn Stewart making 14 saves, including 10 in the third period.
Adrian will look to bounce back and build momentum for the playoffs when they host Trine for a rematch tomorrow night at 7:00 PM.
