ADRIAN, Mich. – The No. 12 Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team sought to bounce back on Saturday night as they hosted the No. 7 Thunder of Trine University. The game ended in a 2-2 tie, but Trine secured the extra point in the NCHA standings with a 2-1 win in the shootout.
Trine took a 1-0 lead after the first period, capitalizing on a power-play goal. The Bulldogs struggled early, managing just one shot on goal in the first frame. Trine extended its lead to 2-0 early in the second period, but Adrian responded with a pair of goals to even the score. Ryan Vellucci scored first, followed by Frank Tafelski's goal, bringing the game to a 2-2 tie entering the third period.
After a scoreless third period and overtime, the teams headed to a shootout. Trine netted a goal in the sudden-death round, which was answered by Anton Sorensen. However, Trine found the back of the net once more to claim the shootout victory.
Carter Real, Matt Couto, Jacob Suede, and Julien Jacob each tallied an assist on the night, while Dershahn Stewart made 22 saves in goal.
The Bulldogs will look to bounce back in the NCHA Quarterfinals, set to take place at the Arrington Ice Arena on February 21-22. Adrian's opponent will be announced later tonight, with the opening game scheduled to start at 7:00 PM.
