GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's volleyball team kicked off action at the Calvin University Quad on Friday in Grand Rapids with two night matches. The Bulldogs mustered a 3-2 win over Rockford University in match one, before falling 3-0 in straight sets to North Park University in match two.
The Bulldogs grabbed that much needed win in their opening match, after falling in three straight contests last weekend in Illinois. On Friday, Adrian and Rockford went at it in a spirited match that went the full distance of five sets, with the teams trading set wins until the end.
Rockford managed to best Adrian in sets 1 and 3, while Adrian got the best of Rockford in sets 2, 4, and 5 to secure the well-earned victory. Leading for the Bulldogs in match number one was
Carson Bell who gathered 13 kills, 6 block assists, and a .611 attack percentage. Right behind him was
Nathan Webster who tallied 11 kills, 2 service aces, and an attacking rate of .444. Co-leading the dig category was
Sam Landers and
Andrew Graczyk with 13 apiece. Graczyk also added a notable 35 of the team's 41 assists.
Not too long after the victory, the Bulldogs stood back on the court to end their night battling with North Park. Though unfortunately for the Bulldogs, another match ended in a blanket result as North Park rallied to shut down Adrian in three straight. Bell carried his team with 7 kills in a much tougher match-up, while Graczyk led with 21 assists and 11 digs for his squad. Webster carried a .500 attack percentage to lead the way.
The Bulldogs will close out weekend action tomorrow afternoon with a match against St. Norbert College at 2:30 PM.
