Austin Selvage Buries Six Goals to Carry Men's Lacrosse to Road Win over Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio. -- The Adrian College men's lacrosse team received an astonishing six-goal performance from Austin Selvage on their way to a thrilling 13-12 comeback win over Ohio Northern on the road Wednesday.

The Bulldogs and Polar Bears met last season for a thrilling triple-overtime contest at Docking Stadium, which saw the Bulldogs come out on top with a 12-11 victory. The two teams lived up to that hype again, trading goals right until the end, this time without needing extra time.

At one point in the game on Wednesday, the Bulldogs trailed ONU by a 9-4 score, storming back to keep the contest close before exploding for six goals in the last eleven minutes of play to erase the deficit and steal the win. Derek Hassel opened the scoring for Adrian early in the game, followed by Alec Winegar, Tyler Ristau and Selvage who brought the Bulldogs to the point of 7-4 after the second quarter.

After a couple more Ohio Northern tallies, the Bulldogs began their march back as Selvage added five more goals throughout the remainder of the game, along with Brandon Hoerauf and Michael Jonas, who both added a pair of tallies late in the win. ONU would find the back of the net three more times, but it was nowhere near enough as the Adrian offense continued to pour it on. Hassel and Jonas also provided three helpers in the game, while Selvage led his team with eight shot attempts. Cameron Reed led the way with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Noah Carithers also collected two CT's in the win.

Standing in goal was Sam Spangler, who just recently set a program record for career saves in the Bulldogs' opening game of the season. The Senior netminder made 11 saves against the Polar Bears in the Bulldogs' first victory of the season.

The Bulldogs will now prepare for another tough opponent in Kenyon College, as they'll head to Gambier, Ohio for their next game on Sunday, February 23.
