ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's NCAA hockey team hosted MSOE on Saturday in game two of the NCHA Harris Cup Quarterfinals, after defeating the Engineers, 4-2, in game one on Friday night. After a 2-1 game two loss, the Bulldogs needed a mini-game overtime win to solve the Engineers and advance to the semifinal round.
Adrian largely dominated game two on Saturday, out-shooting MSOE and carrying the play for most of the night, but it was the Engineers' goaltending and defensive play that made the difference, fending off the Bulldogs to force a mini game. A 2-1 score saw
Frank Tafelski score the lone, unassisted goal for the Bulldogs.
After a scoreless opening 20-minute period of the add on mini-game, the Bulldogs and Engineers moved on to sudden death overtime where the winner would advance on to the next round of the conference playoffs. Just a few minutes into the extra frame,
Ian Amsbaugh patiently set up
Connor May for a beautiful back door tap-in to finally solve the MSOE goaltender for the first time since late in the first period of game two, sending the Bulldogs to next weekend.
Dershahn Stewart was stellar for the Bulldogs, holding off the Engineers and guiding his team to another Harris Cup semifinal appearance.
The Bulldogs will await their opponent for next week's semifinal game. The game will be played at the higher seed on Saturday, March 1.
Connor May stopped by for a post-game chat to discuss today's battle and his mini-game winning tally.
