MEQUON, Wis. – The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team bounced back with a dominant 8-0 win over Concordia Wisconsin on Friday night. Ryder Nienhuis led the way with a four-goal performance, powering the Bulldogs to the victory.
The first period remained scoreless until the final seconds, when Nienhuis scored his first goal of the game. In the second period, he came out strong with back-to-back goals to give Adrian a 3-0 lead. David Clarke added his fourth goal of the season, followed by Ryan Pitoscia's eighth, extending the lead to 5-0. Late in the second, Nienhuis completed his hat trick, scoring his third goal to give the Bulldogs a commanding 6-0 lead heading into the third period. In the final frame, Pitoscia netted his second goal of the game, and Casey Gerstein capped off the scoring with his first goal of the season, coming just 16 seconds before the buzzer.
Nienhuis' four goals tied the program record for most goals scored in a single game. Bradley Somers recorded four assists, while Theo Thrun added three. Dershahn Stewart earned his second shutout of the season, finishing with 29 saves.
With the win, Adrian extends its all-time series record against Concordia Wisconsin to 55-0, dating back to their first meeting on January 11, 2008. Friday's victory also marks the tenth shutout for the Bulldogs in the all-time series.
Adrian will look to build on their momentum and secure another win when they wrap up the series tomorrow afternoon against Concordia Wisconsin, with puck drop scheduled for 5:00 PM ET.
