IOWA CITY, Iowa. -- The Adrian College women's rugby team competed at the Iowa Hawkeye Rugby 7's Classic Tournament over the weekend in Iowa City, coming out with an impressive second-place finish.
The Bulldogs opened with three round-robin matches, going undefeated, winning all three to advance to the Open Pool Championship contest.
Adrian dominated its three round-robin matches, first taking down Wisconsin-Madison, 50-0. The Bulldogs followed that up with a 51-0 win over Northwestern, and then a 55-0 victory over Minnesota-Duluth. The commanding round-robin performance led the Bulldogs to the final match, where they faced Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
In the final championship match, the Bulldogs finished strong but were eventually halted, losing to UW-EC by a 29-5 score.
Pendo Miregi was the leader of the charge for the Bulldogs on Saturday, scoring 56 total points over the four matches; 30 from tries and 26 off conversions.
Jersey Wilson and
Madisyn McDonald each contributed 30 points,
Brooke Blomquist grabbed 20,
Josie Hause scored 15, and
Jorja Pennington and
Samantha Krawczyk tallied 5 apiece.
The Bulldogs will be back in action at the Loyola Chicago 7's next Saturday, March 15 in Illinois.
