ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The No. 6 Adrian College Men's ACHA Division 1 hockey team opened the 2025 ACHA National Championship Tournament with a 6-2 win over No. 11 Calvin University in the Round of 16.
The Bulldogs came out hot to begin Nationals once again, exploding in the first period for three goals.
Matthew DiCesare got the Bulldogs on the board early, followed quickly by a Calvin response.
Matteo Turrin and DiCesare (PPG) answered back for the Bulldogs to give Adrian the 3-1 lead after one period of play.
Second period action opened with a Calvin power-play goal early, but the Bulldogs continued to press, scoring twice more to take the 5-2 margin after two periods.
Dylan Gajewski (PPG) and
Cash Regan tallied for Adrian in the middle frame.
As the Knights pushed to close the gap in the third, the Bulldogs fended them off impressively, holding on for the win while adding an empty-net goal from
David Dell to eliminate the Knights from tournament play.
Noah Decottignies made 20 saves in the opening win for Adrian.
With today's win over Calvin, Adrian continues its dominant all-time hot-streak over the Knights, defeating them in all 23 match-ups since the first one in 2018 and eliminating them from ACHA National Tournament competition for the third straight season.
The MD1 Bulldogs will advance to the national quarterfinal round to take on the No. 3 Ohio University Bobcats at 1:30 PM CST/2:30 PM EST tomorrow at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
