ADRIAN, Mich. -Â Â Adrian College Athletics has announced the hiring of
Andrew Cates as Assistant Coach of the Adrian College Track and Field and Cross Country teams.
Cates joins the Adrian College coaching staff after graduating from Wittenberg University, where he was deeply involved in the track and field program. Originally a student-athlete for one season, he transitioned into a student manager role, playing a key part in the development of 18 All-Conference athletes and five national qualifiers.
As a member of Wittenberg's coaching staff, Cates contributed to the team's impressive success, helping secure the 2022 and 2023 NCAC Indoor & Outdoor Championships for the women's team, as well as the 2023 NCAC Outdoor Championship for the men's team. His impact extended to the record books, where he played a role in six school records.
Cates was instrumental in designing effective training plans for more than 35 collegiate sprinters, assisting head and assistant coaches in practice organization, and actively recruiting and retaining top-tier athletes.
A native of Greenville, Ohio, Cates now joins Head Coach
Ty Hoover at Adrian College, where he will serve as the assistant track & field and cross country coach. In this role, he will focus on coaching mid and long-distance athletes.
