ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's lacrosse team held Senior Day at Docking Stadium this afternoon as the Bulldogs hosted Kalamazoo College, capturing a 13-8 victory with the help of a Senior-dominant performance.
After the conclusion of Saturday's contest, the Bulldogs honored their 13 members of the Senior Class of 2025 with a post-game ceremony alongside their families. Seniors
Derek Hassel,
Alec Winegar,
Michael Camacho,
Brandon Hoerauf,
AJ Hayes,
Cameron Reed,
Riley Edwards,
Sam Spangler,
Michael Jonas,
Jake Coakley,
Jack Messel,
Bowen Sparks, and
Gino Capicchioni were recognized and appreciated, in front of a heavy Docking Stadium crowd, for their efforts and astounding careers as Bulldogs.
To reach the win, their second of the MIAA agenda so far, the Bulldogs came out with an electric entrance, as Camacho scored just seven seconds into the contest to open the scoring. Hoerauf and Jonas would follow that up with tallies of their own, before the Hornets added two. Sparks and Edwards (Man-Up) found the back of the net before the first quarter ended, giving Adrian a 5-2 cushion after one frame of action.
Winegar and
Nico Palazzolo continued the offensive press in the second quarter, knotting the opening two goals in the second frame, but it was the Hornets who turned it on after that, responding with four straight markers to close the gap to 7-6. Jonas would add another for Adrian before halftime, bringing the score to 8-6 with two frames remaining.
In the second half, Adrian got back to their dominant ways, scoring five times more to only two more from Kalamazoo. Reed, Jonas, and
Austin Selvage added to the scoring, while Hoerauf completed a hat-trick in the fourth quarter, including one beautiful end-to-end tally. Hassel led the Bulldogs in the assists category on Saturday, grabbing 4 helpers.
Reed, who finished with a goal and 2 assists, led the way with 8Â ground balls and 5Â caused turnovers. The Senior defender now sits third all-time in program history for ground balls with 264 as of today.
Firing away at the goal was Winegar, who carried the load with 10 shot attempts. Between the pipes was the usual suspect,
Sam Spangler, as he turned aside 13 shots in his seventh win of the campaign.
With the record book basically sitting in his lap this season, Jonas added to his historical season on Saturday, shattering yet another Adrian College men's lacrosse program number. His twelfth hat-trick of the season brought his season goal total to 58, which sets the new program record for goals in a single season. Earlier this season, along with many other records, Jonas also captured the record for points in a single season and points in a single game (12). His three assists on Saturday add to his season total and leave him only six away from the single season assists record as well.
The Adrian College men's lacrosse squad will head to Angola, Indiana on Tuesday, April 15 to battle with the Trine Thunder. Face-off for that contest will commence at 7:00 PM.
Seniors
Brandon Hoerauf,
Riley Edwards, and
Alec Winegar were summoned for a post-game chat to highlight the memorable Senior Day victory and reminisce on their outstanding tenures as Bulldogs.
