ANGOLA, Ind. - The Adrian College women's lacrosse team kicked off their MIAA play with a tough matchup at Trine University on Thursday afternoon, ultimately falling 14-9. The Bulldogs, now 8-2 overall and 0-1 in the MIAA.
Adrian got off to a strong start when Sarah Gross opened the scoring in the first quarter, putting the Bulldogs up 1-0. However, Trine responded with a dominant run, scoring four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead into the second quarter.
Mariana Miller would get the Bulldogs back on track in the second, notching her first goal of the day off an assist from Kayla McCann. But despite their efforts, Adrian found themselves down 7-2 at halftime, facing a five-goal gap.
The Bulldogs came out determined in the second half, with Abby Malone cutting the deficit to five after Trine extended their lead early in the third. Adrian kept the pressure in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs tallied six goals in a final push. Madeline Turcotte scored twice, while Miller added three, and Malone capped off the effort with her second goal of the game.
Despite the strong fourth-quarter surge, the Bulldogs couldn't close the gap, ultimately falling 14-9 in their MIAA opener.
Miller finished with an impressive four goals and one assist, leading the Bulldogs' offensive efforts. Turcotte added a pair of goals and an assist, while Malone also contributed two goals. Gross rounded out the scoring with one goal.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday, April 5 where they will take a trip to Holland, Michigan to take on Hope College. The opening draw is set for 1:00 PM
