Men's Lacrosse Battle with Hope College; Fall in 12-9 Nailbiter

HOLLAND, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's lacrosse team took on Hope College on the road on Wednesday night, battling with the Flying Dutchmen in a 12-9 loss.

The Bulldogs, coming off a win over Calvin last week, opened the scoring in the contest with the Flying Dutchmen, before Hope followed up with two in the first quarter. Second quarter action resulted in six more tallies for the Dutch, to the Bulldogs' three, bringing the score to 8-4 at half time.

In an exhilarating response in period three, the Bulldogs exploded with four goals and held the Flying Dutchmen scoreless to tie the game at 8-8 with fifteen minutes remaining. Unfortunately for Adrian, it was Hope who came out on top in the final quarter, adding four goals to the Bulldogs' one to hold on for the 12-9 victory.

Scoring singles for the Bulldogs on Wednesday was Riley Edwards, Derek Hassel, Austin Selvage, and Alec Winegar. Cameron Reed tallied twice and Michael Jonas registered a hat-trick in the loss.

Jonas managed to add two helpers along with his hat-trick to finish the night with five points. His five points add to his season total, bringing him to 87 so far in 2025 and setting a new Adrian College men's lacrosse program record for points in a single season. Jonas passes Cody Kilcoyne's previous mark of 82 set back in 2013. His three goals on Wednesday were also historical as they give him 55 on the season, tying him with Kilcoyne for the program record for goals in a single season. Jonas has at least four more opportunities this season to break that record.

Reed led his squad on Wednesday with seven ground balls, while Noah Carithers caused two turnovers to lead his team in that category. Goaltender, Sam Spangler, made 19 saves in the loss.

The Bulldogs will host Kalamazoo College on Saturday, April 12 for Senior Day at Docking Stadium. Opening face-off at 4:00 PM.
