ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday afternoon inside Docking Stadium, as the Bulldogs fell to the Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops by a tight 1-0 score.
In a match that could've gone either way, the Bishops were victorious to keep their all-time win streak over the Bulldogs alive. It wasn't until early in the second half that the Bishops broke the ice, tallying off a corner kick to take the lead.
Back and forth action saw both teams generate plenty of chances, with each goalkeeper standing tall to keep their team's hopes alive. Shots in the game ended 12-11 in OWU's favor, speaking to the closeness of the match, and keeping fans on their toes right until the end.
Adrian, who managed 6 total shots on goal, were led by none other than their top offensive threat,
Annamarie Fosmoen, who fired 4 of those 6 shots at the OWU goal.
Sam DeCeuninck and
Charlotte Pouget registered the remaining two shots on goal for the home team in the loss. Goalkeeper,
Katelyn Stanton, made 8 beautiful saves in her second appearance of the year, while
Teagan Bergeron,
Samantha Guciardo,
Melanie Perhne,
Ellise Fries, and Fosmoen each played the entire 90 minutes of the contest for Adrian.
The Bulldogs will continue their home-stand to start the season, with their next match coming on Wednesday, September 3 versus Manchester University. Kick-off will commence at 7:00 PM at Docking Stadium.
