WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Adrian College women's soccer team traveled to Wilmington College on Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference matchup. Despite trailing 2-0 in the first half, the Bulldogs mounted a strong second-half comeback that ultimately fell short, as Wilmington secured a late goal to win 3-2. With the loss, Adrian drops to 3-4 on the season.
Wilmington struck early, taking a 1-0 lead in the 9th minute on an own goal by the Bulldogs. The Quakers doubled their advantage in the 23rd minute. Adrian responded before halftime, as Alanna Earl found the back of the net to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Bulldogs continued their push in the second half, and in the 74th minute, Annamarie Fosmoen scored the equalizer to make it 2-2. However, Wilmington reclaimed the lead in the 80th minute with a third goal, which proved to be the game-winner.
Adrian outshot Wilmington 20-15, including a 9-6 edge in shots on goal. Fosmoen led the Bulldogs with six shots, two of which were on target. Earl and Ashley Hughes each added two shots on goal. Katelyn Stanton started in goal for Adrian, recording four saves on the night.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Monday, September 22 at 4:00 PM, when they host the University of Mount Union.
