ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team completed its series against Lake Forest College on Saturday afternoon, making a statement with a five-goal first period en route to a 6-2 victory and a series sweep.
The Bulldogs erupted for five goals in the opening frame, starting with a power-play tally from Nathaniel Bannister. Anthony Mollica added a goal less than a minute later, followed quickly by another from Ian Amsbaugh. Alec Lovisek and Jack O'Hanisain also found the back of the net to give Adrian a commanding 5-0 lead and force a Lake Forest goaltender change. A late shorthanded goal by the Foresters cut the deficit to 5-1 at the end of the first period.
Scoring slowed in the second as Lake Forest added a power-play goal to make it 5-2. Despite controlling much of the period and generating 23 shots on goal, Adrian was unable to extend the lead.
Devyn Orpana scored the lone goal of the third period to seal the 6-2 win for the Bulldogs.
Ryan Vellucci finished the game with a pair of assists, while Ryan Piros made 16 saves in goal.
The Bulldogs return to action next weekend when they travel to the University of Dubuque for a two-game series on January 23–24. Both games are scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. ET.
