ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College WD1 hockey team delivered a dominant performance on Saturday night, shutting out Grand Valley State University 7–0 behind a balanced offensive attack and a flawless effort in goal.
The Bulldogs wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, striking just over two minutes into the opening period. Junior Taryn Morris opened the scoring on the power play at 2:12, finishing a setup from freshmen Addison Scoville and senior Tyla Turnbull. Adrian continued to control the pace of play, doubling its lead at 12:56 when senior Genessie Williams found the back of the net off an assist from Morris. Senior Ashlynn Stitt capped off a three-goal first period with an unassisted tally at 18:32 to give the Bulldogs a commanding 3–0 advantage after one.
Adrian carried the momentum into the second period, adding three more goals in a span of just over seven minutes. Morris scored her second of the night at 4:19, converting a feed from junior Sophie Kuzminski and Scoville. Senior Taylor Robinson followed with back-to-back goals at 5:13 and 11:44, both assisted by Turnbull, with Morris and junior Chloe Gregory also contributing helpers. The Bulldogs headed into the final intermission up 6–0.
The scoring was capped late in the third period when Kuzminski tallied at 12:17, assisted by sophomore Nadia Nickel, sealing the 7–0 victory.
Adrian outshot Grand Valley 53–15 and held the Lakers scoreless. In net, sophomore Olivia Towpich was perfect, stopping all 15 shots she faced to earn the shutout.
The WD1 Bulldogs will be back in action Friday on the road at Michigan-Dearborn and Saturday at home against Michigan-Dearborn, puck drop set for 7:00 PM both evenings.
