GENEVA, Ill. – The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team traveled to Aurora University on Sunday night for a non-conference rematch against the No. 4 Spartans. The No. 2 Bulldogs battled throughout but ultimately fell, 4-2.
Aurora opened the scoring late in the first period to take a 1-0 lead. The Spartans extended their advantage early in the second with a power-play goal. Adrian responded when Patrick Saini found the back of the net to cut the deficit to one, but Aurora answered with another power-play tally to take a 3-1 lead into the third period.
Theo Thrun scored early in the third to pull the Bulldogs within one at 3-2, but Adrian was unable to complete the comeback. Aurora sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the final minute.
Saini and Thrun each recorded a goal and an assist, while Ian Amsbaugh and Alec Lovisek added assists. Ryan Piros made the start in goal for the Bulldogs and finished with 18 saves. Adrian held a 35-22 advantage in shots on goal.
With the loss, Adrian moves to 10-4-0 on the season. The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday, January 8, traveling to Trine University for another non-conference matchup. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
