PLYMOUTH, Mich. – The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team traveled to USA Hockey Arena on Friday night for its annual exhibition matchup with the USA U18 National Team Development Program (NTDP). The U18 squad came away with a 7-1 victory.
USA jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, with the second goal coming while shorthanded. The NTDP extended its advantage to 3-0 early in the second period on the power play, but Adrian responded just 29 seconds later when Ryan Vellucci found the back of the net to put the Bulldogs on the board. USA answered quickly and carried a 4-1 lead into the third period.
The U18 team added three more goals in the final frame to secure the 7-1 exhibition win.
Jackson Bernard started in net for the Bulldogs and made 13 saves. Adan Gariepy made his Adrian debut in relief, stopping 10 shots. Ryder Nienhuis and Anton Sorenson each recorded an assist in the contest.
Adrian returns to action on January 16–17, hosting Lake Forest College at Arrington Ice Arena.
