ALBION, Mich. – The Adrian College volleyball team headed to Albion to take on a Britons team currently receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Top 25 poll. Coming off a big conference win against Kalamazoo College, Adrian looked to keep the winning ways rolling in a tough road test inside the oldest active gymnasium in Michigan.
In the match's opening set, Adrian found themselves down two points after a Khloe Budzynski kill and four errors on Albion. Up 7-5, the Brits answered with an 11-3 run to give themselves a ten-point advantage. The Albion attack led them to a commanding first-set victory, 25-10.
The Bulldogs looked to even the match up in the second set. Once again, the Brits landed the first punch and led 7-0. Adrian tried to stop the Albion attack, but the Brits' attack was overwhelming. Another Budzynski kill cut into the lead late, but Albion sealed the second-set victory two points later.
With their backs against the wall, Adrian looked for a response. Adrian held close to the Brits for much of the third set. A kill via Ava Acre cut into the deficit, and a Kora Nicolanti service ace made it a two-point game. Trailing 19-13, the Bulldogs called a timeout. They responded out of the break, and a Kendall Sullivan kill forced the Brits to call a timeout of their own. The two teams exchanged leads throughout the set, but a 4-0 run by Albion was the nail in the coffin. Albion won set three 25-22, completing the sweep.
Despite the loss, Emma Leinberger's eight assists in the match helped her surpass 1,000 assists in her collegiate career.
