Women's Soccer Falls at Albion Despite Goals from Verhaeghe and Aikens

ALBION, Mich. – The Adrian College women's soccer team continued MIAA play on Saturday morning, falling to Albion College, 6-2. The Bulldogs moved to 3-6-2 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Adrian struck first in the 23rd minute when Madison Verhaeghe found the back of the net to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. The goal came after Samantha Guciardo recorded the first shot on goal of the match for Adrian.

Albion answered in the 33rd minute on a goal from Ceci Irwin before Eva Armbruster scored with four seconds remaining in the opening half. The late goal sent Adrian into halftime trailing 2-1.

The Bulldogs nearly tied the match early in the second half. Isla Brown placed a shot on goal in the 50th minute before Verhaeghe hit the left post less than two minutes later.

Albion extended its lead with a pair of goals from Chloe Salo in the 54th and 59th minutes. Irwin added two more goals late in the half to complete a hat trick and give the Britons a 6-1 advantage.

Bri Aikens converted a penalty kick in the 84th minute to score Adrian's second goal of the match.

Brown led the Bulldogs with four shots, including two on goal. Verhaeghe and Ashley Hughes each recorded two shots, while Guciardo and Aikens also placed attempts on target. Monica Arndt played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with five saves.

Adrian recorded 11 shots with six on goal, while Albion finished with 18 shots and 12 on target.

The Bulldogs will return home on Wednesday, Oct. 7, when they host Trine University at Docking Stadium. The MIAA contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
