ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's soccer team battled through a physical MIAA contest against Trine University on Wednesday evening, falling 3-0 at Docking Stadium.
Trine opened the scoring in the fifth minute before adding another goal in the 22nd minute. Adrian responded with a pair of quality opportunities during the opening half. Madison Verhaeghe placed a shot on goal in the 16th minute, while Lauren Lee tested the Trine goalkeeper with another attempt in the 41st minute.
The Bulldogs came out aggressively after halftime and began creating sustained pressure in the attacking end. Verhaeghe put another shot on goal in the 53rd minute, beginning a stretch in which Adrian earned five corner kicks over the next 25 minutes.
The intensity continued to increase as the match progressed, with Adrian working through contact and several challenging sequences while continuing to search for a goal. Verhaeghe and Delaney Batur each recorded additional scoring opportunities during the Bulldogs' strong second-half push.
Trine added its final goal in the 80th minute, but Adrian continued competing through the final whistle. Verhaeghe produced the Bulldogs' final opportunity in the 86th minute.
Verhaeghe led Adrian with four shots, including two on goal. Lee recorded the Bulldogs' other shot on target, while Batur added one attempt. Adrian finished with six shots and matched Trine with five corner kicks, all of which came during the second half.
Monica Arndt played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with seven saves.
The Bulldogs return to Docking Stadium on Saturday, October 10, when they host Hope College at 7 p.m. for Senior Night.
