ANGOLA, Ind. – The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team concluded its regular season Saturday night with a road matchup against Trine University. The Bulldogs came up short, falling 3-2 to the Thunder.
After a scoreless opening period, Trine broke through on the power play early in the second to take a 1-0 lead. Devyn Orpana answered for Adrian roughly 10 minutes later, evening the score at 1-1. The Thunder responded quickly with two goals of their own to carry a 3-1 advantage into the third period.
Bradley Somers provided a spark for the Bulldogs with a shorthanded goal to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Adrian was unable to find the equalizer down the stretch.
The Bulldogs finished 0-for-6 on the power play, while Trine went 1-for-6 with the man advantage. Ben Loreto, Ryan Vellucci, Nathaniel Bannister, and Julien Jacob each recorded assists. In goal, Ryan Piros made 24 saves as Adrian outshot Trine 34-27.
The Bulldogs return to action February 20-21 for the Quarterfinal round of the NCHA Harris Cup, with puck drop scheduled for 2:00 p.m. each day. Adrian's opponent has yet to be determined. Ticket information for Friday and Saturday's contests will be announced Sunday, February 15.
