ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team opened the NCHA Harris Cup Playoffs on Friday afternoon, hosting the No. 8 seed Lake Forest Foresters in the quarterfinal round. The No. 1 seeded Bulldogs claimed game one of the two-game series with a 6-2 victory.
Adrian took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission after Lucas Deeb found the back of the net in the opening period. In the second, Theo Trun extended the advantage before Frank Tafelski scored to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 cushion heading into the final frame.
Tafelski struck again early in the third period, and Ian Amsbaugh followed with a goal to push the lead to 5-0. Lake Forest responded with two late goals, including one on the power play, to trim the deficit to 5-2. Amsbaugh later netted his second goal of the afternoon to secure the 6-2 win.
Patrick Saini paced the Bulldogs with three assists, while Jacob Suede added two helpers. Amsbaugh finished with three points on two goals and an assist. In goal, Ryan Piros turned aside 17 shots for Adrian.
The Bulldogs will look to complete the quarterfinal sweep in game two against Lake Forest on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Arrington Ice Arena.
