ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCAA women's hockey team closed out the regular season Saturday afternoon with a matchup against Trine University. Prior to puck drop, the Bulldogs honored their senior class of Riley Johnson, Courtney Ben, Vanessa Ruban, and Allie Hubenschmidt. Adrian capped the celebration with a 5-1 victory, securing the Kronschnabel Cup as the NCHA Regular Season Champions.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead in the opening period. Ava Mattaliano opened the scoring with a power-play goal before Maddy Loe and Paige Pomerleau followed with goals of their own to give Adrian a 3-0 advantage after one period.
After a scoreless second, Trine found the net early in the third to cut the deficit to 3-1. Adrian quickly responded, however, as Courtney Ben and Riley Johnson tallied back-to-back goals to seal the 5-1 win.
Vanessa Ruban earned the start in goal for the Bulldogs and turned aside 13 shots in the victory.
With the win, Adrian earned the No. 1 seed in the NCHA Slaats Cup Finals and will host the quarterfinal round on February 20–21, with both games scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop.
