ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team opened its two-game home series against Concordia University Wisconsin on Friday night, earning a 4-1 victory over the Falcons. With the win, the Bulldogs claimed three more points and maintained their hold on first place in the NCHA standings.
After a scoreless first period, Julien Jacob put Adrian on the board early in the second with his second goal of the season. Later in the period, Patrick Saini doubled the Bulldogs' lead to make it 2-0 heading into the third.
Saini took over in the final period, scoring twice more to complete the hat trick and extend Adrian's lead to 4-0. Concordia broke up the shutout with a goal midway through the period, but the Bulldogs closed out the contest to secure the win.
Adrian outshot Concordia 30-16 on the night. Ian Amsbaugh and Theo Thrun each recorded two assists, while Ryan Piros turned aside 15 shots in goal. With the victory, Adrian improved its all-time series record against Concordia to 57-0.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday afternoon for the series finale, with puck drop set for 4:00 p.m. Prior to the game, Adrian College will honor its senior class with a pregame ceremony.
