ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College men's basketball team hosted Trine University for a MIAA conference matchup inside the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center on Saturday afternoon, but the Bulldogs came up just short in a tightly contested 71–66 loss.
The game opened at a fast pace, with both teams trading baskets early and neither side able to seize momentum. The contest featured 16 lead changes and remained close throughout the first half. Trine connected on a pair of late baskets before the break, sending Adrian into the locker room holding a narrow three-point advantage.
Adrian carried that momentum into the second half, building its largest lead of the game at eight points. Trine responded by chipping away at the deficit and eventually reclaiming the lead down the stretch. The Thunder knocked down several key shots late in the game to extend their lead to six. Despite the Bulldogs' efforts to stay within one possession, time worked against Adrian, and Trine sealed the victory at the free-throw line to secure the 71–66 final.
The Bulldogs shot 40 percent from the field, 50 percent from three-point range, and 14-of-19 from the free-throw line. Darrius Welch led Adrian with 19 points while adding six rebounds and one assist. Seth Logan contributed 13 points and three rebounds. Austin Burns posted a strong performance, recording career highs with 12 points and 10 rebounds, along with one assist.
Up Next: The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday, February 11 where they will travel to Kalamazoo College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
