ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College women's lacrosse team dropped a tightly contested 14-13 overtime decision to Otterbein University on Saturday afternoon inside the Sweebe Family Indoor facility.
The Bulldogs battled back throughout the contest and forced overtime after a late equalizer, but the Cardinals found the game-winner with just under two minutes remaining in the extra period.
Kacie Woodall and Mariana Miller led Adrian offensively with three goals each. Jenna Allie and Madeline Turcotte added two goals apiece, while Sarah Gross, Abby Malone, and Grace Holland each recorded a goal in the loss. Skylar Donaldson paced the Bulldogs with two assists.
Otterbein opened the scoring early, but Miller responded with two first-quarter goals to help Adrian knot the game at 2-2 after the opening period. The Cardinals used a strong second quarter to build a 6-4 lead heading into halftime.
After Otterbein extended its lead in the third quarter, the Bulldogs answered with three late goals—including tallies from Malone, Woodall, and Miller—to close the gap to 11-8 entering the fourth.
Adrian mounted a comeback in the final quarter, scoring four consecutive goals to take its first lead of the afternoon. Turcotte started the run before Gross and Turcotte each scored again to give the Bulldogs a 12-11 advantage midway through the frame.
The Cardinals responded with two goals to regain the lead, but Woodall tied the contest with 50 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.
In the extra period, Otterbein capitalized on its opportunity to secure the 14-13 victory.
Bella Norton finished with 13 saves in goal for Adrian. The Bulldogs held advantages in ground balls (42-34) and clears (22-of-23), while Turcotte led the team with five draw controls. Woodall added a team-high eight ground balls and Gross collected six.
The Bulldogs now sit at a 4-1 overall record and look to build from this game as they head into their next game at Captial University on Wednesday at 5:00 PM.Â
