ALMA, Mich. -- The Adrian College women's lacrosse team opened conference play in commanding fashion on Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 20-4 victory over Alma College on the road.
With the win, Adrian improves to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in conference action, while Alma falls to 2-4 (0-1).
The Bulldogs wasted no time asserting control, jumping out to a 7-1 lead after the opening quarter. Adrian scored six unanswered goals to start the game, highlighted by early tallies from Kacie Woodall, Jenna Allie, Abby Malone, Sarah Gross, and Skylar Donaldson.
Adrian continued to apply pressure in the second quarter, outscoring Alma 2-1 to take a 9-2 advantage into halftime. The Bulldogs' defense held the Scots in check, limiting them to just six shots in the first half.
After Alma found the back of the net twice in the third, Adrian quickly responded with a late push to extend its lead to 12-4 heading into the final frame.
The Bulldogs put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter, erupting for eight goals while holding Alma scoreless to seal the 20-4 win.
Jenna Allie led all scorers with six goals and an assist, while Sarah Gross added four goals. Madeline Turcotte and Abby Malone each recorded three goals, with Turcotte also contributing an assist. Woodall finished with a well-rounded performance, tallying two goals and a team-high four assists. Donaldson and Ruby Monahan each added a goal themselves.
Adrian controlled possession throughout, holding advantages in shots (49-9), ground balls (32-11), and draw controls (15-10).
Bella Norton earned the win in goal for the Bulldogs, playing all 60 minutes.
Adrian will look to build on its strong start to conference play in their next contest Wednesday on the road to Kalamazoo College at 5:00 PM.
