Late Surge Falls Short as Men's Lacrosse Drops Back-and-Forth Battle at Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's lacrosse team battled back from multiple deficits and briefly took a fourth-quarter lead, but a late run by Calvin lifted the Knights to a 14-10 victory on Wednesday evening.

After falling behind 3-0 early in the second quarter, the Bulldogs responded with a four-goal run to take their first lead of the contest. Trace Tidswell jumpstarted the rally with a man-up goal, while David Harrison added back-to-back scores to tie the game. Tidswell later capped the surge, giving Adrian a 4-3 advantage. Calvin answered quickly, closing the half on a 3-0 run to take a 6-4 lead into the break.

The Bulldogs continued to battle in the second half, trading goals throughout the third quarter. Braeden McNamara and Tidswell each found the back of the net, while Harrison and Austin Selvage also contributed to keep Adrian within striking distance at 9-8 entering the fourth. Adrian's persistence paid off early in the final frame, as McNamara tied the game at 9-9 before Alec Winegar finished a feed from McNamara to give the Bulldogs a 10-9 lead with 10:26 remaining. However, the Knights responded with five unanswered goals over the final 10 minutes to secure the conference victory.

McNamara and Tidswell led Adrian with three goals apiece, while Harrison added two. Winegar paced the offense with four points (one goal, three assists), and Selvage chipped in a goal and an assist. Defensively, Adrian goalkeeper Josiah Karnehm recorded 10 saves in the full 60-minute effort. Adrian (3-10, 1-4) showcased a balanced offensive attack, placing five players in the scoring column and outshooting Calvin 43-39, but the Knights controlled possession behind a strong faceoff performance and pulled away in the final minutes. Calvin held advantages in ground balls (38-16) and faceoffs (20-7), helping tilt possession down the stretch despite committing more turnovers (17-13).

Adrian will look to bounce back as they host non-conference opponent Colorado College Saturday at noon.
