Fourth-Quarter Surge Not Enough as Women's Lacrosse Falls to Calvin, 21-14

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College women's lacrosse team mounted a strong late push, but an early deficit proved too much to overcome in a 21-14 loss to Calvin University on Tuesday evening at Sweebe Family Athletic Center.

Calvin struck early and often, building a 6-3 lead after the first quarter behind a dominant offensive showing. The visitors continued to apply pressure in the second, outscoring Adrian 8-4 to take a commanding 14-7 advantage into halftime.

Despite the deficit, the Bulldogs showed resilience throughout the contest. Adrian kept pace offensively in the first half with goals from Mariana Miller, Jenna Allie, and Madeline Turcotte, but Calvin's efficiency and timely scoring runs created separation.

The third quarter saw Calvin extend its lead even further, holding Adrian scoreless while adding five goals to make it 19-7 heading into the final frame.

Adrian responded with its strongest stretch in the fourth quarter, erupting for seven goals. Abby Malone opened the period with a free-position goal, while Allie, Kacie Woodall, and Skylar Donaldson each found the back of the net during the run. Late goals from Miller and Grace Holland capped the scoring as the Bulldogs closed the gap but ultimately fell short.

Miller led Adrian with a hat trick and added an assist, while Allie contributed a team-high four assists along with two goals. Woodall and Turcotte each tallied two goals and an assist, helping pace a balanced Bulldog attack that featured eight different goal scorers.

Defensively, Adrian held advantages in ground balls (26-24) and draw controls (19-17), showcasing effort on the hustle plays despite the final scoreline. Goalkeeper Bella Norton recorded six saves in the contest.

Adrian falls to 11-4 overall and 5-2 in conference play, while Calvin improves to 12-5 (6-1). The Bulldogs will look to build on their fourth-quarter momentum as they will host MIAA quarterfinals Saturday. Opponent and time will be announced within the next coming days.
