ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College women's lacrosse team used a commanding second-half performance to pull away from Saint Mary's College (IN), earning a 16-7 victory in the MIAA Tournament First Round on Saturday afternoon at Docking Stadium. Adrian improves to 12-4 on the season and advances to the MIAA Tournament Semifinals following a balanced offensive effort and strong defensive showing.
The Bulldogs struck first, jumping out to a 2-0 lead behind goals from Jenna Allie and Kacie Woodall. Saint Mary's responded with three straight scores to briefly take the lead, but Allie converted a free-position attempt late in the first quarter to even the game at 3-3.
After Saint Mary's regained a 4-3 edge early in the second, Adrian took control with a three-goal run. Woodall sparked the surge with an unassisted tally before Madeline Turcotte and Abby Malone added back-to-back goals, giving the Bulldogs a 6-4 halftime advantage.
The momentum continued into the third quarter as Adrian dominated possession and extended its lead. Goals from Woodall, Sarah Gross, and Mariana Miller helped the Bulldogs outscore Saint Mary's 3-1 in the frame, building a 9-5 cushion heading into the fourth.
Adrian put the game away with an explosive fourth quarter, erupting for seven goals. Woodall and Allie each added to their totals, while Turcotte netted two scores in the period. Malone capped the scoring with a free-position goal as the Bulldogs cruised to the 16-7 final.
Woodall and Allie led the attack with four goals apiece, while Turcotte added three goals and two assists. Miller and Malone each chipped in two goals, highlighting a well-rounded offensive performance that saw six different Bulldogs find the back of the net.
Adrian controlled the stat sheet, outshooting Saint Mary's 38-20 and holding advantages in ground balls (31-15) and draw controls (17-8). The Bulldogs were also perfect on clears (21-for-21), showcasing efficiency in transition.
Defensively, goalkeeper Bella Norton recorded 10 saves to anchor the effort as Adrian limited Saint Mary's to just three second-half goals.
The Bulldogs will look to carry their momentum into the MIAA Tournament Semifinals as they face Calvin on the road Tuesday at 4:00 PM.
