Women's Soccer Falls to Wittenberg on the Road

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Adrian College women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling to Wittenberg University, 2-0. The Bulldogs moved to 2-1-1 on the season following the non-conference contest.

Adrian's defense held strong throughout the opening half despite facing six shots and four corner kicks. Riley Miller stopped all four shots she faced during the period to send the match into halftime scoreless.

Wittenberg broke the deadlock with a goal in the 53rd minute. The Bulldogs looked for the equalizer and generated their best scoring opportunity late in the second half. Samantha Guciardo and Isla Brown placed back-to-back shots on goal in the 79th minute, but both attempts were saved.

Wittenberg added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute to extend its lead to 2-0. Sophia Trozak put Adrian's final shot on frame in the 89th minute, but the Bulldogs were unable to find the back of the net.

Brown led Adrian with four shots, including one on goal. Madison Verhaeghe, Guciardo and Trozak also recorded shots on target. Miller finished with seven saves in just over 74 minutes in goal, while Monica Arndt played the final 16 minutes.

The Bulldogs will continue their road trip on Tuesday, Sept. 15, when they travel to Otterbein University for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
