WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Adrian College women's soccer team fell to Otterbein University, 3-1, on Tuesday evening. The Bulldogs moved to 3-2-1 on the season following the non-conference contest.
The teams played through a scoreless opening half. Adrian produced four shots during the period, placing attempts from Lauren Lee and Samantha Guciardo on goal. Monica Arndt made three saves to keep the match scoreless at halftime.
Adrian broke through shortly after the intermission. The Bulldogs earned a corner kick in the 46th minute before Madison Verhaeghe found the back of the net off an assist from Gracie Jagodzinski to give Adrian a 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs held the advantage until Otterbein scored the equalizer in the 70th minute. Otterbein moved ahead with another goal in the 75th minute before extending its lead to 3-1 in the 84th minute.
Hannah Rose placed a shot on goal in the 76th minute as Adrian looked to answer, but the Bulldogs were unable to cut into the deficit.
Verhaeghe led Adrian with three shots and scored her first goal of the season. Lee, Guciardo and Rose also recorded shots on goal. Arndt played all 90 minutes in net and finished with six saves.
The Bulldogs will return home on Saturday, Sept. 19, when they host Kenyon College at Docking Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
