MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Adrian College women's volleyball team concluded the Gator Invitational with a match against Fredonia. The Bulldogs won the match 3-1, giving them their fourth win of the season.
Adrian looked to get back in the win column today after losing Friday night to Allegheny College.
The Bulldogs never trailed for the entire first set. An all-around effort, Adrian's 14 kills came from six different Bulldogs. Lauren Boehmer's four kills led Adrian to a 25-19 first set victory.
The second set was a different story as Fredonia led for the entire set. Despite the Bulldogs tying the game at 18, courtesy of a Morgan Wood kill, the Blue Devils evened the match up with a 25-19 win.
The next set was highlighted by multiple runs for the Bulldogs. The Blue Devils had the early advantage in the third set, leading 8-3. Adrian answered with a five-point run that evened up the set. A couple of points later, Fredonia had a two-point advantage. Once again, the Bulldogs responded with five straight points, aided by four Blue Devil attack errors. With the set still close, a Fredonia service error gave Adrian a 17-14 lead. All hope of a comeback for the Blue Devils ended when Lili Sipila served eight straight points for the Bulldogs, including five straight service aces.
Adrian looked to clinch the match victory in the fourth set. The set was close early on, but two kills by Morgan Wood gave Adrian a cushion on their lead. The Bulldogs built a nine-point lead and put the nail in the coffin with two service aces via Kora Nicolanti en route to a 3-1 match victory.
Lili Sipila's six service aces in the match moved her into a tie for third in program history in service aces in a four-set match and a tie for sixth in program history in service aces in a single match. The last time six service aces were achieved by a Bulldog was in 2016. The team's 15 service aces today is now the most in a four-set match in program history.
