ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's soccer team fell to Baldwin Wallace University, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at Docking Stadium. Goalkeeper Monica Arndt kept the Bulldogs within striking distance throughout the match, finishing with nine saves.
Adrian generated a pair of early scoring opportunities through Delaney Batur and Ashley Hughes. Hughes placed a shot on frame in the 15th minute before Batur forced another save two minutes later.
Baldwin Wallace broke the scoreless tie in the 38th minute, but Adrian answered with late pressure before halftime. Nora Kinsey put a shot on goal in the 40th minute, while the Bulldogs earned their first corner kick shortly afterward.
The Bulldogs continued to push forward in the second half. Batur recorded three shots during a short stretch near the 63rd minute, and Madison Verhaeghe tested the goalkeeper with an attempt on frame in the 65th minute. Baldwin Wallace responded with its second goal in the 66th minute to extend the margin to 2-0.
Adrian created one final opportunity from a corner kick in the closing minute but was unable to find the back of the net.
Batur led the Bulldogs with five shots, including one on goal. Hughes added two attempts and one shot on frame, while Verhaeghe and Kinsey also recorded shots on goal. Arndt made four saves in the opening half and five after the break.
Baldwin Wallace held an 18-11 advantage in shots and an 11-4 edge in shots on goal. The Yellow Jackets also finished with seven corner kicks compared with four for the Bulldogs.
Adrian moves to 3-4-2 on the season and will open MIAA play against Calvin University on Wednesday, September 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Docking Stadium.
