Women's Soccer Falls to Calvin Despite 16-Save Performance from Arndt

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's soccer team opened MIAA play on Wednesday evening, falling to Calvin University, 5-0, at Docking Stadium. The Bulldogs moved to 3-5-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Calvin opened the scoring on a penalty kick from Mikaela Waroway in the third minute. Adrian goalkeeper Monica Arndt responded with a series of saves to keep the Bulldogs within one before Waroway scored again in the 26th minute.

Madison Verhaeghe recorded Adrian's first opportunity in the 24th minute, placing a shot on goal that was saved by Calvin goalkeeper Aubree Lee. Arndt finished the opening half with 10 saves as Adrian entered halftime trailing 2-0.

The Knights extended their lead with goals from Ellery Boeving in the 56th minute and Waroway in the 59th minute. Waroway's third goal completed the hat trick.

Isla Brown recorded a shot for Adrian in the 68th minute, while Lauren Lee placed the Bulldogs' second shot on goal in the 86th minute. Calvin added its final goal in the 87th minute on a strike from Brianna Kozlowski.

Arndt played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with 16 saves. Verhaeghe and Lee each recorded a shot on goal, while Brown accounted for Adrian's other shot.

Calvin finished the match with a 31-3 advantage in shots, including a 21-2 edge in shots on goal. The Knights also held an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 3, when they travel to Albion College for an 11 a.m. MIAA contest.
