TIFFIN, Ohio – The Adrian College women's volleyball team opened their regular season at the Great Lakes Crossover, hosted by Heidelberg University, earlier today.
The Bulldogs went 0-2 on the day, dropping their first match to Hanover College 3-1, and match two to Baldwin Wallace University 3-0.
Match 1
Adrian got the regular season started against Hanover College earlier today. The first set was a back-and-forth battle. After falling behind 3-1 on a few errors, the Bulldogs battled back to even it up with the Panthers. Adrian took a 5-4 lead off of a Hanover attack error; they never conceded the lead the rest of the way. Another attack error by the Panthers gave the Bulldogs a 15-11 lead, their largest lead of the set. A kill by Lauren Boehmer stifled a Hanover comeback, and a Khloe Budzynski kill concluded a victorious first set for Adrian.
Set two was controlled by Adrian early, leading 13-8 after an Emma Leinberger kill. Hanover battled back, creating multiple runs that prevented Adrian's comeback attempt. The Panthers sealed set two by a score of 25-22.
Sets three and four continued to be a battle between the two teams, but 18 errors from Adrian in the last two sets proved to be costly.
Kora Nicolanti's career-best 23 digs weren't enough as the Bulldogs fell 3-1 to the Panthers.
Match 2
The second match of the day created problems for the Bulldogs. An Avery O'Shaughnessy kill pulled Adrian within one point early. Baldwin Wallace answered with a 6-0 run and never looked back, taking set one 25-13.
Adrian battled back in set two and found themselves trailing 18-16. Again, the Yellow Jackets went on a 6-0 run en route to a 25-17 final in set two.
Another 6-0 run early for Baldwin Wallace set the tone for the third set. Adrian slowly battled back, but it was too little, too late as the Yellow Jackets swept the match.

The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow for day two of the Great Lakes Crossover. They'll kick off the day at 9 AM against Hiram College, before playing Kenyon College at 11 AM.
