TIFFIN, Ohio – The Adrian College women's volleyball team concluded the Great Lakes Crossover with two matches earlier this morning.
They dropped the early morning matchup to Hiram College 3-0. The Bulldogs battled in the second match of the day, but ultimately fell to Kenyon 3-1.
Match 1
The Bulldogs started today with an early-season test against a Hiram College team picked to finish second this year in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Preseason Poll.
Similar to their matches yesterday, Adrian had a competitive first set. The Bulldogs held onto the lead for the majority of the set. Back-to-back kills by Lauren Boehmer followed by a kill by Virginia Rowan helped Adrian to a 16-13 lead. The Terriers answered quickly with a 12-5 run that ultimately led to a set one victory.
In set two, Hiram picked up right where they left off, jumping out to a 5-1 lead early. A service error by the Terriers allowed the Bulldogs to climb back into things, making it 6-6. Hiram's attack was ultimately too much, as they totaled 16 kills in set two, winning 25-16.
Hiram played a clean set three, totaling only two errors, compared to Adrian's seven. Virginia Rowan had five kills for the Bulldogs in set three, but it wasn't enough as the Terriers completed the sweep. Rowan led the team in kills for the match with eight total.
Match 2
Adrian looked to bounce back in the Great Lakes Crossover finale against Kenyon College. Once again, the Bulldogs found themselves in a back-and-forth set. The Owls gained the early advantage after a Bulldog attack error. Adrian answered quickly and held onto the lead for the majority of the set. The teams continued to exchange blows, but Kenyon ultimately earned the first set victory by a score of 25-21.
Set two again tested the Bulldogs early, finding themselves tied seven different times with the Owls. A Kenyon attack error gave Adrian the lead, and they never looked back. Adrian's attack included seven kills from four different Bulldogs as they jumped out to a 22-12 lead.
25 points would not be enough to determine a winner in set three. Kenyon jumped out to a 5-0 lead in set three. The Bulldogs continued to fight, like they had all weekend, tying it up at 12 courtesy of a Lauren Kilbarger kill. The two teams exchanged leads until two runs from the Bulldogs earned them a 22-20 lead. Kenyon got the last say, however, winning set three 26-24.
In set four, Adrian found themselves up five, courtesy of an ace from Avery O'Shaughnessy. Owls continued to answer, eventually sealing the victory on a five-point run to end the match.

The Bulldogs will be back in action next weekend at the ONU Invitational. On September 11, they will take on Ohio Northern at 4:30 PM. They will take on Pitt.-Bradford at 11 AM and Berea (Ky.) at 2 PM on September 12th.
