WATERFORD, Mich. – The Adrian College women's soccer team remained unbeaten with a 2-1 road victory over Rochester Christian University on Wednesday night at Pierce Middle School. Isla Brown scored the game-winning goal in the 75th minute as the Bulldogs improved to 3-0-1 on the season.
Adrian applied pressure from the opening whistle, with Brown placing a shot on goal during the first minute. Hannah Rose and Gracie Jagodzinski added shots on target as the Bulldogs continued to create opportunities throughout the opening half.
The Bulldogs broke through in the 40th minute when Kate Lawrie found the back of the net off an assist from Melanie Perhne. Adrian carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime after outshooting Rochester Christian 9-5 during the opening 45 minutes.
Adrian continued to attack after the break. Delaney Batur placed two shots on goal during a stretch in which the Bulldogs earned three corner kicks in three minutes. Samantha Guciardo also had a header cleared off the line by the Rochester Christian defense.
Rochester Christian equalized in the 66th minute following a free kick. The Bulldogs quickly responded with scoring chances from Ashley Hughes and Brown before earning a corner kick in the 75th minute.
Batur delivered the ensuing corner into the box, where Brown finished the opportunity to restore Adrian's lead at 2-1. The Bulldogs' defense held strong over the final 15 minutes, defending consecutive corner kicks and receiving three late saves from Riley Miller to secure the victory.
Adrian finished with a 23-15 advantage in shots, a 15-8 edge in shots on goal, and a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Brown led the Bulldogs with seven shots, including five on goal. Batur and Madison Verhaeghe added five shots apiece, while Miller finished with seven saves.
The Bulldogs will continue their road trip on Saturday, September 12 when they travel to Wittenberg University for a 1 p.m. match.
