ADRIAN, Mich. -
The Adrian College softball team earned a strong game two victory against conference opponent Hope College after dropping the opening game of the day on Monday.
In game one, the Flying Dutch scored three runs in the first inning and two runs in the second, fourth, and sixth innings to take a 9-0 win from the Bulldogs in six innings. Three Hope players each had two hits in the game which included a home run by lead-off hitter Jessica Regnerus.
The Bulldogs had trouble getting the offense going in game one. Krissy Sheets, Carmen Batway, Erica Fracassa, and Katie Adams each picked up a hit in the game for Adrian.
Andrea Vangoss suffered the loss on the mound as she went the distance in game one. The senior struck out a pair as her record moves to 8-6 on the season.
The Bulldogs came around in game two, however, as they plated a run in the fourth and the sixth to come back from the 1-0 deficit to take the 2-1 win.
Krissy Sheets scored both of the Bulldogs' runs in the nightcap. Sheets led off the fourth inning with a walk and then advanced to third on consecutive ground-outs. The sophomore then scored when Jenna Kloster hit a grounder to second base that was misplayed and got away from the Flying Dutch player to knot the score at 1-1.
Sheets then took matters into her own hands in the top of the sixth inning as she hit a solo home run to center field to put the Bulldogs up 2-1.
Kelly Tomasek had a strong day on the mound for the Bulldogs as she struck out five and gave up an unearned run while picking up the win.
The Bulldogs (15-13, 6-4 MIAA) will take to the field for their second of three consecutive home doubleheaders tomorrow when they face the Concordia University (Mich.) Cardinals. Game one is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Adrian College softball field.
