Game Two Box Score
NOTRE DAME, Ind. -
The Adrian College softball team dropped a pair of MIAA games to Saint Mary's College on Saturday afternoon by 7-2 and 9-6 scores.
The Bulldogs took the early lead in game one when Krissy Sheets singled and later scored on a Jenna Kloster single to put the visitors up 1-0.
Sheets extended the lead to 2-0 for the Bulldogs in the third inning. The sophomore outfielder doubled to lead off the inning and scored on another Jenna Kloster single for the second run of the game.
The Bulldogs, however, would not get another runner to third base in the game while the Belles scored seven unanswered runs to take the 7-2 win. Andrea Vangoss suffered the loss on the mound as she went the distance while surrendering just one earned run.
In game two, it was the seventh inning of the game that proved to be the big difference in the contest. The Belles took the lead with a three-run third inning, which is how the score stood until the sixth inning.
The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the sixth when Holly Lowe hit a double and later scored when Meghan Stevens singled.
In the seventh inning, the two teams combined to score 11 runs. The Belles scored five runs in their offensive half of the frame to take a 9-1 lead. The Bulldogs mounted a comeback in the bottom half of the inning, however. Katie Adams and Krissy Sheets led off with back-to-back singles. Adams scored on the single by Sheets due to an error by the Belles, which also allowed Sheets to make it to third base. Erica Fracassa then drove Sheets in on an infield ground out to make the game 9-3. Holly Lowe got things started again for the Bulldog offense with a double. After Jenna Kloster walked to put runners at first and second, Meghan Stevens hit a three-run home run to cut the Belles' lead to 9-6. The Bulldogs, however, could not manage to complete the comeback and fell by the final of 9-6.
Kelly Tomasek took the loss in the circle for the Bulldogs. The freshman pitched 6.2 innings before Lindsay Mandeville came on in relief in the seventh inning.
The Bulldogs (18-16, 6-6 MIAA) will have a week off from games due to finals week before hosting Kalamazoo College next Saturday, April 26 for Senior Day at the Adrian College softball field. Game one is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
